Fishing-Tales a Most Memorable Trip
Fishing-Tales I have several fishing stories but here is my favorite fishing story: On the James River there's a place where a cliff about 18' high that thrusts out into the river, and over the years the river has been partially diverted to form a small bay. During the morning hours, you can sit on the cliff above and look down to watch dozens of 1 to 4 pound trout right next to the shore in this little bay eating surface bugs. Some of you that know me know, I'm not a fly guy. I own some of the stuff, and sometimes I even use it. The problem was to take the attention away from the bugs, and get these trout to attack my offering. By the way if you let them see you, you may as well pack up and go home! After many many attempts that failed, I finally discovered the secret. I would use a bobber with whatever bait I could find and throw it out as far as possible, so that it would appear to be part of the natural flow of water that was diverted by the cliff and came into the bay directly at the feeding fish. They could not hear the bait hit the water, and quit frankly, it may have taken a couple of minutes to get to the trout. Once it did, hold on to your hats! To this day, this is where I caught my biggest trout.
PS Fishing-Tales you have my name and address so stop by sometime and I will take you to this spot. It is still not well known. Stephen
From Fishing-Tales I don't get to your area very often but I maybe Knocking on your door someday and thanks for the Fishing Story.
